⏱ 40 Minutes 🎯 250+ Words 📊 66.6% Writing Mark

Task 2 carries double the weight of Task 1, representing two-thirds of your entire IELTS Writing score. You have 40 minutes to plan, compose, and proofread an academic essay of at least 250 words responding to a complex societal issue. Band 8.5 candidates succeed by mastering the 5-minute planning phase, crafting an unambiguous thesis statement in the introduction, and building cohesive, logically developed body paragraphs.

The 4-Paragraph Academic Essay Blueprint

1. Introduction (~45–55 words)

Sentence 1 (Background): Paraphrase the prompt statement using academic synonyms.
Sentence 2 (Thesis Statement & Outline): State your clear personal stance and outline the two main arguments explored in the body.

2. Body Paragraph 1 (~90–100 words)

Topic Sentence: Present Argument 1.
Explanation: Develop the underlying causal logic.
Concrete Example: Provide a realistic evidence case.
Concluding / Consequence Sentence: Tie back to the prompt thesis.

3. Body Paragraph 2 (~90–100 words)

Follow the exact same structural discipline for Argument 2 (or the opposing viewpoint if writing a discussion essay).

4. Conclusion (~35–45 words)

Re-state your thesis in fresh language and synthesize the main ideas. Never introduce brand-new arguments in the final paragraph.
